Matteo was born on December 29, 1990, in Milan, where he currently lives, and began to approach dance at the age of 19. His professional training started at the M.A.S. Music Art & Show academy, where he graduated with a BA in Professione MAS. At the same time, he participated in many contemporary dance programs, and after finishing the academic training, he moved to New York to improve his movement studies. Here he enriched his background by studying with the Limón Dance Company, learning their technique. Since 2018, he has continued to deepen Limón technique by blending it with his movement, thus beginning to create something currently new. In particular, he founded the Mindful Movement Exploration method, in which each participant can develop their own natural movement and enhance their technical abilities. He based the creative processes of all his choreographic works on this method. In 2021, he created the contemporary dance work Movement happens in waves for the Festival Suelo y Aire, commissioned by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, also bringing it to the stage in the cultural event Cicatrici in Triennale Milano. The same year he won the open call for the Festival A Due Voci with the choreographic work I demoni di Nietzsche, which he also presented at Dap Festival 2022, in Pietrasanta, Tuscany. Next he created Rubric, winning the call for entries of the XXI Festival de Danza Canarios Dentro y Fuera, in which the work premiered in December 2022, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In 2023, he created his choreographic work Bacchae, presented at Vapore d'Estate and at the Dap Festival 2023. Recently he created and presented Sequoia in the event Pratiche Parallele and at the Dap Festival 2024, as part of a prestigious roster of international artists.
Matteo is currently one of the leading experts of Humphrey-Limón technique in Italy, in regular contact with the Limón Dance Company for continuous updates. He is a contemporary choreographer and leads masterclasses and in-depth courses in several national and international schools, such as in Spain, Poland and Denmark. He has worked for many Italian academies, including MoveOn Performing Arts Academy and the Accademia Ucraina di Balletto in Milan.
